Popular actress Neelima Rani, known for her roles in Tamil television and cinema, has recently spoken openly about the toughest phase of her life. Having acted in hit serials like Thamarai, Chellamay, Vani Rani, Kolangal, and Metti Oli, as well as films like Naan Mahaan Alla and Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, Neelima revealed the financial hardships she faced while trying to produce a film.
₹4 Crore Debt: A Risk That Led to Loss
In a candid interview, Neelima Rani shared how she and her husband decided to produce a movie with a budget of ₹4 crore. To fund the project, they took loans at high interest rates and poured everything into making the film. However, things did not go as planned.
The film did not turn out as expected. In the end, we had no choice but to scrap it. We were left with huge debts, standing in the middle of the street, wondering how to move forward,” she said.
Bouncing Back from Financial Crisis
Neelima recalled how, after losing everything, she had to restart her career in television. She took up roles in popular serials like Vani Rani, Thamarai, and Thalayanai Pookal to support her family.
We couldn’t even afford rent and had to stay in a friend’s house in a single room. But we never lost hope. If we wanted to succeed, we had to be ready to accept failure too,” she shared.
In 2017, she and her husband turned producers for Zee Tamil, launching serials like Endrendrum Punnagai and Niraimaaradha Pookal. Though their dream was to produce films, they decided to start with TV productions first.
Determined to Produce a Film Again
Despite past failures, Neelima Rani remains determined to return to film production.
One day, we will make a film again. If we give up, no one will come to help us. We must be our own support system,” she affirmed.
