Chennai, March 15, 2025 – The Madras High Court has dismissed allegations of a false case against veteran Tamil filmmaker Kasthuri Raja, bringing an end to a long-standing legal battle.
The case stemmed from a financial dispute dating back to 2012, when Raja reportedly borrowed ₹65 lakh from financier Mukund Chand Bothra. When the repayment cheques allegedly bounced, Bothra filed a cheque fraud case against the director. However, in 2015, a local court acquitted Raja, a decision later upheld by the Madras High Court.
In response, Raja filed a counter-case against Bothra, alleging misuse of a blank cheque given as security. After Bothra’s passing, his son Kagan Bothra lodged a new complaint against Raja, claiming the prolonged legal proceedings had caused his father severe mental distress.
Raja’s legal team argued that such allegations could only be pursued by a court official with due authorization and not by a private individual. The High Court accepted this argument and dismissed the case, stating that the complaint lacked legal standing.
This ruling effectively exonerates Kasthuri Raja from all accusations, putting an end to the prolonged legal dispute. The director has not yet made an official statement regarding the verdict.-AirMedia Broadcast
