₹50 Crore Fund for Development of Community Radio Stations Across Various States, Including Tamil Nadu

Union Minister of State L. Murugan Informs Lok Sabha

Union Minister of State L. Murugan informed the Lok Sabha that a fund of ₹50 crore has been allocated for the development of community radio stations operating in various states, including Tamil Nadu. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting evaluates studies concerning the operational performance and sustainable financial activities of radio programs across various states, including Tamil Nadu. The Central Government is undertaking various initiatives to strengthen community radio stations across several states, including Tamil Nadu. As part of this effort, the scheme to support the development of community radio stations in India has been expanded, with an allocation of ₹50 crore for the five-year period from 2026 to 2030. Under this scheme, the funds will be utilized for staff salaries, the procurement of tools and equipment, and the installation of solar power generation systems at these radio stations. Financial assistance amounting to ₹52.59 lakh has been released over the past three years to six community radio stations operating in Tamil Nadu. This includes ₹10 lakh in financial aid for the Dharmapuri community radio station,Mahendra Community Radio Salem and Alayam Community radio Coimbatore.
